What is progressive trance?
Progressive trance is a listening route within trance that puts the evolving arrangement at the centre. Rather than judging a track by its loudest moment, follow how the opening establishes a pulse, how phrases develop and how the energy changes over time.
There is overlap with progressive house and other electronic styles. A label or selector may group music differently from a shop or streaming platform. Listen to the arrangement as well as the category. Anjunabeats’ own releases playlist pairs trance and progressive (opens in a new tab); The Prog Lab publishes both progressive house and trance sets (opens in a new tab).
Three details worth following
- The repeating phrase. Notice what remains recognisable when another layer enters.
- The space. Listen to how the track uses a pause, a breakdown or a thinner texture before bringing energy back.
- The transition. Follow changes between sections rather than skipping straight to the peak.
Looking for a progressive trance mix?
Look for a clear mix duration, selector credit and tracklist. An individual release, an extended mix of one track and a continuous DJ set serve different needs. “Extended” does not automatically mean an hour of uninterrupted music.
The SIENTT listening page currently links a released recording. It does not claim a continuous mix, a 24/7 station or a schedule of forthcoming releases.
