LISTEN CLOSER

Hear the space between layers.

Headphones offer a close perspective on an electronic recording. Start with what you already own.

Start with a comfortable level

Begin low and adjust only until the details are clear. More level is not the same as more depth. Keep a way to pause within reach and take breaks when you need them. This is a listening guide, not a headphone specification or a medical recommendation.

Follow the stereo image

Listen once to the centre of the mix, where the rhythmic foundation often sits. On a second pass, notice what moves out to the sides. A supporting texture can make a space feel larger without becoming the main melody.

Next, compare the same passage on speakers if you have them. The room changes the experience. Neither method replaces the other; each helps you notice something different.
